My name is Susannah Whipps. I am proudly serving my fourth term as State Representative for the Second Franklin District (Athol, Belchertown–Precinct A, Erving, Gill, New Salem, Orange, Petersham, Phillipston, Royalston, Templeton, Warwick and Wendell).
**Every ten years the legislature is obligated to re-draw its districts based on the Federal Census. The new Second Franklin District is comprised of Winchendon (precinct 1), Phillipston, Royalston, Athol, Orange, Warwick, Erving, Northfield, Gill, and Greenfield (precincts 1,2,3,4 & 9). Towns moved to other districts are Petersham, New Salem, Wendell, Belchertown & Templeton.** (updated 11/10/21)
I am the only unenrolled (independent) legislator currently serving in the Commonwealth’s General Court.
Since taking office in 2015, I have been an independent voice for the people of this region. I have worked to develop professional relationships with colleagues from both sides of the aisle. I am a member of the Rural Caucus along with other legislators who represent similar areas to be sure your voices are heard.
Due to the size of the district and the needs of my constituents, I have chosen to keep a staffed district office, rather than a Boston office. My legislative aide, Rachel McMahon, works full-time in the district. Our office is located at 352 Main St in Athol. Rachel can be reached at [email protected] or by calling (978) 895-9606.
This session I sit on three committees
Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery
Joint Committee on Transportation
Joint Committee on Revenue
I am also appointed to a statewide task force for the prevention of child sexual abuse.
